Wayanad - the ideal summer weekend

Wayanad was supposed to be my budget trip but was a lifestyle budget trip. We stayed at Glenora Homestay at Wayanad has a tie up with Mahindra holidays and was very nice. The host fed us lavish home food and sent us early morning tea and advised our lazy souls some nearby sights to see.

We reached at night and had a blast. Made plans to go trekking in the morning and dropped it. I cant remember what we did the following day, actually. We had doas in coconut oil, coconut chutney, a banana fried sweet and some rice-y stuff for breakfast. This was so pampering that I would suggest everyone of you to stay at Glenora. The weather was cooler than the night and we went for a long drive to Sultan Bathery to eat lunch at 4pm. Ok, this is crazy to drive up 50 kilometers for lunch. But this drive was probably the best part of Wayanad.

We went to Kanthapara waterfall, which was supposedly calm and quiet and less commercialized. But the drive was still better :-). You need to feel the place than hit a tourist spot, a great man once said!
People lazed and ate and drank the local beer. Lazed more in the Glenora estate.. This is indeed the real holiday.
The dinner was also very nice and very Kerala. Rice poori, veg-egg stew, biriyani, a few other things and amazing shavige payasa, the kind we make back home in Karnataka...

The next day started late, again with the flop trekking plan. Coconut rice balls and dal sambar and stew for breakfast. It just felt like I went to Kerala to eat. Again, enjoyed the food, totally.

We went to a nearby stream and tried to bathe. But it was a baby stream. So we bathed our feet instead.

Then we lazed and ate and drank. Then the most eventful part of Wayanad trip happened. Edakkal Caves! The entry closed at 4.30 pm and we reached at 4.15 and ran up the hill. Oh damn! we were unhealthier than the unhealthy 60 year old man. Gasped our breathless way up the hill and entered the caves at a cost of Rs.10 each. Thats the Kerala Govt ticket btw. The caves were nice and had the remains of the earliest form of civilization. Nothing to beat the trek uphill.

As soon as we made the plan to end Wayanad and hit Masinagudi, we drove crazily out of Kerala saying Good-Bye to uncle at Glenora Homestay for his hospitality.

Masinagudi can be your destination this summer

Tip for the Summer travelers:
Don't go in search of view points! Every place in Wayanad is a view. Enjoy your drive or walk leisurely though the hils and tea estates.,
Try to minimize the sightseeing trips so you can choose the good places. For instance, you can choose to drive around tea estates for half a day, see Soojipara waterfalls for another half day, climb up Edakkal Caves for another half day.
You can stay at Glenora if you are interested to spend a few bucks more. But have an assured great trip.
Great food! Great ambiance! Great estate in Glenora!
They do not serve liquor, you can buy it at the local wine store in Wayanad town or choose to carry your own.
