Sunset in the Prambanan style

Prambanan temple, Angkor style of temple dome
Prambanan temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia is one of the famous temples in the region., the other being Borobudur temple. Apart from being a UNESCO heritage site, Prambanan temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Trimurtis in Central Java region.

Prambanan is one of the only two historic temples that I know to be housing a Brahma temple., the other is Pushkar in Rajastan, India.
Brahma shrine in Prambanan temple
After being in ruins for, Prambanan temple which is now being restored, has 6 temples. The 3 main temples are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma and Vishnu temples on either sides of Shiva temple which is the biggest. The other 3 smaller temples are Nandi, Garuda and Hamsa.

Best time to visit With the sun setting behind the temple, the domes are a sight for the noon-evening traveler. All of the temples can be covered in a few hours and try to time your visit in the second half of the day.

Shoppers can have a blast with all the hawkers outside the temple. It is almost a shopping village outside the temple and after sunset these guys will sell you at discounted prices before shutdown for the day. Tribal art is one thing I bought and recommend. These are cheap and serve as great souvenirs while contributing to the local economy.
